Munro to open with Guptill

Who: The BLACKCAPS v India, 1st ODI of a three match series #indvnz

When: A Day-Night game which starts at 1.30pm India time. That means a 9pm for first ball in New Zealand.

Where: Wankhede Stadium Mumbai, India. But you can also watch it Live on SKY Sport and follow the live-scoring on nzc.nz. Updates will be posted on  the BLACKCAPS Twitter too.

Team news: Kane Williamson confirmed today that the BLACKCAPS would have a new opening pair for the first match, with Colin Munro to partner Martin Guptill. The rest of the team won’t be announced until the toss, but Todd Astle won’t be in it, after he was ruled out for both the ODIs and Twenty20s with a hamstring injury. Ish Sodhi has been added to the ODI squad in his place.

Last time: The two sides faced off in a five match ODI series in India last year and went to a decider. India took out the final match to win 3-2.

On the line: Currently sitting in 5th, the BLACKCAPS could go as high as third if they won all three matches, while India have the chance to go top of the ODI rankings.

Quotes from the team

Kane Williamson on how the team have prepared: “Two warm-up games have given us a chance to adjust to the conditions and now it’s about going out an performing from ball one.”

Tim Southee on the atmosphere Wankhede Stadium: “When full, Wankhede Stadium has one of the best atmospheres in the world.”

Mike Hesson on the strength of India: "India have a quality team and when you play them in their own backyard you’re up against probably the single toughest challenge in cricket.”

Henry Nicholls on the heat: Usually by the end of warm-ups the training kit is a couple of shades darker with the sweat. A lot of guys have been here many times before, but it’s still hard to prepare for the humidity.

Colin Munro on opening the batting: "It’s exciting. It’s a new challenge and I feel like I can play my natural game no matter what the situation is."

Trent Boult on what he expects from the pitch: “The red soil generally means the pitch will offer a bit of pace and bounce. It usually swings around at night in Mumbai too, so it should be a great start to the series."

Martin Guptill on being in India for Diwali: “The amount of fireworks in the street and how loud they are make Guy Fawkes in New Zealand seem tame. There’s been a lot of ear plugs used at night by the guys.

George Worker on staying in India for a few more weeks after the India A tour: “I’m lucky I like a hot vindaloo and handle it better than most of the other boys. Henry Nicholls is terrible.”
