Mike Sandle named BLACKCAPS Manager

New Zealand Cricket has today announced Mike Sandle as BLACKCAPS Manager replacing Dave Currie who stepped down following the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Sandle , 49, comes to New Zealand Cricket with outstanding credentials having served for 24 years in the New Zealand Police Force and worked full time as team manager of the Auckland Blues Super15 rugby team since 2010.

During his time with the Police Sandle spent 11 years as a dog handler and eight years with the Organised Crime Unit and also served with the Armed Offenders Squad.

Previous team manager roles in rugby dating back to 2001 include the Auckland provincial team, New Zealand Under 19’s and New Zealand Divisional XV.  Sandle also held the position of Professional Development Manager for Taranaki Rugby Union in 2007 and 2008.

NZC Director of Cricket John Buchanan said he was thrilled to welcome a manager of Mike’s quality to fill a role that is key to the smooth running of the BLACKCAPS unit.

“There were a high number of strong candidates for the position but Mike was the stand out. It’s fantastic for the team and I’m sure he will do a great job in what can be a challenging logistics role.

“He is an experienced manager who will have the respect of the players and along with John Wright will help create an environment where the team can succeed.

Mike Sandle said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity and I look forward to working alongside John, Ross, the team and staff at New Zealand Cricket.”
