STATISTICS: Milestones and statistics from round ten of the round five HRV Cup Twenty20 competition
McCullum became the first player to hit two centuries in the HRV Cup, reaching his century in just 49 balls. Only Jamie How, during his innings in New Plymouth the day before, has scored a faster hundred.
McCullum's unbeaten second wicket partnership with Neil Broom of 188 is the second highest for that wicket in all Twenty20 cricket. Only the 206 runs added by Adam Gichrist and Shaun Marsh for the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL stands ahead of them.
The previous highest second wicket partnership in the HRV Cup was an unbeaten 127 shared by Brad Hodge and Brad Wilson for the Northern Knights against the Otago Volts.
The forty eight runs conceded by Nathan McCullum has only been exceeded in a three over spell by the fifty runs smashed off Chris Martin by the Canterbury Wizards in the 2005-06 season. Tim Southee also went close to passing Martin's record went he was pasted for forty seven runs off three overs in the Volts reply.
On a day in which the bowlers once again suffered heavy punishment, young Jacob Duffy finished with 3 for 19 off his four overs on debut. Only four bowlers have produced better figures on debut with Seth Rance having the best figures of 4 for 13 for the Central Stags. Only James McMillan with 3 for 15 has better figures for the Volts on debut.
Hamish Marshall (86 not out) recorded his highest score for the Knights and shared in a record fifth wicket partnership against the Volts of 93 with Scott Styris.
Neil Broom also recorded a personal best of 79 not out as his innings was overshadowed by the hitting of McCullum at the other end.
Prior to the HRV Cup final the leading runscorers in the HRV Cup are Martin Guptill (434), Brendon McCullum (372), Rob Nicol (290), Azhar Mahmood (287) and James Franklin (270). Both McCullum's and Nicol's aggregates are season records for the Otago Volts and Canterbury Wizards respectively.
Following his two wickets against the Wizards, Roneel Hira has moved to the top of the wicket-takers with thirteen victims. Andy McKay has finished with twelve wickets while Rob Nicol can still add to his twelve wickets in the final. Michael Bates can also add to his eleven scalps however Adam Milne and Tim Southee will remain on eleven.
