Play has been abandoned between the Blackcaps and the West Indies in the first ODI at the Queenstown Events Centre due to rain.
The West Indies left the field on 129 for five after 36 overs with Xavier Marshall unbeaten on 29 and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin in on three.
Earlier in the day Daniel Vettori won the toss and put the West Indies in to bat on wicket where the chasing team is yet to lose a one day international.
It was all going well for the Blackcaps who were on top with accurate bowling by Daniel Vettori and Tim Southee.
Vettori removed the West Indies best batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan in the 29th over, for 38 and had a number of other close shouts turned down.
Three overs later Tim Southee removed Brendon Nash and backed up in the first ball of his next over to have Kieron Pollard caught behind and had the tourists reeling at 125 for five in the 34th over.
Then the rain came, stopping play for the third and final time.
The next game is on January 3rd at AMI Stadium in Christchurch.
