Chris Martin has overtaken Daniel Vettori as New Zealand’s highest placed Test bowler in the ICC Test rankings.
Martin shot up four places after he collected figures of eight for 31 in New Zealand’s last Test against Zimbabwe. It takes him from 17th to 13th in the rankings, one higher than Vettori.
The 658 points he’s accumulated is a career high for the 37 year old, who is the oldest player in the top 20. The experienced right-armer is still the strike bowler for the BLACKCAPS and has been in terrific form all summer.
At the other end of the spectrum 21 year-old Doug Bracewell has made his way to 31st in the rankings which is also a career high. His superb showing in Hobart against Australia was backed up by figures of five for 38 against Zimbabwe. Only four Tests into his international career Bracewell is expected to continue moving up the ladder.
Vettori has dropped down two positions to 14th in the bowling rankings after a dominant pace attack left with him little to do against Zimbabwe. He has also gone down one to fourth in the Test all-rounder rankings, although Martin is not likely to overtake him in that area.
The best of the New Zealand batsmen is Ross Taylor who goes up three places to occupy 17th on the ladder, well ahead of Brendon McCullum who is next best in 27th.
