Last ball win for Aces

A last-ball six by Andre Adams wrapped up a four-wicket Twenty20 victory for State Auckland Aces against State Northern Knights at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.

Adams’ maximum completed a successful run chase by Auckland, after the Knights has set 160, for four wickets.

ND opener Alun Evans top-scored with 67 and BLACKCAPS Twenty20 international Peter McGlashan contributed 44.

After Evans and Ian Butler (seven) were dismissed in successive deliveries, James Marshall (25 not out) and Mark Orchard (15no) put on 44 in the 22 balls remaining.

In reply, Auckland made steady progress with opener Martin Guptill making 38.

However, they could not keep up their run rate, staying under seven with five remaining until Rob Nicol provided an unbeaten 31 from 25, and Keeley Todd 29 from just 15.

With six needed to win, Adams hit the ball straight down the ground for a dramatic win.

The match between State Otago Volts and State Wellington Firebirds was abandoned without play due to rain in Invercargill.
