An unbeaten half-century by State Northern Knights captain James Marshall dented State Auckland Aces’ hopes of an automatic place in the State Shield final.
The home team concluded a successful run chase after a fire at Seddon Park at the match’s midway point left the conclusion of the day-nighter in doubt.
With the fire controlled and further play deemed safe, the Knights began the chase for 199 from 42 overs, after Auckland had posted 216 for eight.
Lou Vincent made 51 for the Aces, while Ian Butler and Graeme Aldridge took three wickets each.
The change of innings break was extended when the fire broke out, but the match officials concluded play was able to continue.
The Knights completed victory with four balls to spare, with Marshall (61 not out) and Daryl Tuffey (32no) putting on a decisive unbeaten stand.
Auckland now need to defeat State Central Stags in their final round-robin game to have any hope of hosting the final.
