Jurgensen Bowling Coach through to 2019

Shane Jurgensen has been appointed as the BLACKCAPS bowling coach in a full time capacity.

Appointed to the interim role in February this year, Jurgensen’s contract will take him though until the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup in England.

It represents Jurgensen’s second stint in the role, having been the side’s bowling coach from 2008-2010. He has also been the head coach of Bangladesh, having previously been a first-class cricketer in Australia.

BLACKCAPS head coach Mike Hesson said: “Shane’s been impressive with the structure he’s brought to the bowling unit and we’re pleased to be able to lock him into a long-term contract."

“His knowledge of all conditions and his overall experience has been evident during his time with us. He works extremely hard with our bowlers and has a strong rapport with all of the players in our squad.

"Shane has a number of New Zealand connections and brings a lot of passion to the role."

Jurgensen was thrilled to be continuing his tenure with the group.

“It’s been a pleasure to be a part of this team and I’m delighted to get the chance to continue to do so,” said Jurgensen.

“Mike and Kane lead the team in a way that has everyone going in the same direction and that’s an exciting prospect going forward.

“New Zealand has a hugely talented group of bowlers who aren’t afraid to put the hard work in. They want to be the best in the world and it’ll be my mission to help them achieve that goal.

“It’s a close group and one that I feel privileged to be able to contribute too."
