Jones to tour India with England

Paceman Simon Jones has been recalled for England's Test tour of India but skipper Michael Vaughan and spinner Ashley Giles must both prove their fitness to keep their places in the squad.

Jones, who had ankle surgery and was missing from England's 0-2 series loss in Pakistan late last year, will continue his fitness work at the MRF Fast Bowling Academy in Madras and will fly out on January 26, more than two weeks before his teammates.

Vaughan, who had knee surgery in December, is confident he will be fit, while Giles must prove he has overcome a hip operation, with England selectors to call on either the highly-regarded Monty Panesar or Ian Blackwell for the final place in the squad.

"The injury is fine. I've taken a really positive step in the last two weeks and been able to work hard on the machines for two or three hours a day," Vaughan told BBC Sport.
"I don't think it will be a problem for me getting on the plane with the rest of the lads in February."

Should the pair both prove their fitness, England will be able to call on all of its Ashes-winning squad in India.

But the international career of veteran quick Darren Gough may be over after he was left out of a 16-man squad for the seven one-day internationals in India.

With Jones now fit and Liam Plunkett and James Anderson preferred ahead of him, Gough, who missed the tour of Pakistan for personal reasons, has not been able to win his place back.
