New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Australia have announced a joint bid to host the ICC 2011 Cricket World Cup.
New Zealand and Australia completed their bid last week following a detailed discussion and planning process and the bid document was delivered to the ICC in Dubai.
“We are confident that we have a world class bid,” NZC Chief Executive Martin Snedden said.
“Both countries have the capability to host an outstanding event. We have fantastic venues, solid infrastructure and professional staff who are experienced in event management at the highest level.
“I am grateful to the strong support we have received from Governments on both side of the Tasman. In New Zealand the Prime Minister, Minister of Sport, Minister of Finance and other ministers have gone to great efforts to support our bid, as have local councils, venues, SPARC and the New Zealand Rugby Union,” Mr Snedden said.
“The World Cup would provide significant cricketing, promotional and financial benefits to the game in both New Zealand and Australia.
“We have an excellent relationship with Cricket Australia and have formed a strong partnership around the bid. As part of that partnership we have agreed to a philosophy of sharing the matches evenly between the two countries with the location of the final yet to be decided,” Mr Snedden said.
“Our joint vision is to set new standards for the delivery and presentation of the cricket world cup,” Cricket Australia Chief Executive, James Sutherland, said.
“Australia and New Zealand have a proven track record for the presentation and seamless delivery of world class sporting events.”
The host of the ICC 2011 World Cup is expected to be confirmed at the ICC’s annual conference in July this year.
The ICC 2011 Cricket World Cup is due to take place in February and March of that year.
