On the BLACKCAPS performance

“I think we are satisfied with the win and satisfied with some individual performance. Jesse Ryder was outstanding at the top and Martin Guptill finished off pretty well and then with the ball Nathan McCullum was outstanding.

“There is always lots of things to improve on, I don’t think some of us bowled as well as we could but on a wicket like that you have got to be inch perfect because its so slow. There is a short turn around but time for improvement.

“You always look at the field for the standard marker on how the team is going. I think we were pretty outstanding in the field so that is probably the most important bit for me and hopefully the individual skills come to meet.

“It’s important to improve.  We will probably have Bond and McCullum come back in, and Taylor - they are three pretty crucial players for us so getting those guys back in the team will be important.  The West Indies look like a really good team, I think they would be one of the favourites on their home ground so if we can perform against them then we know we are in good shape.”

On the pitch…

"Its very slow, but you expect that when you come here. It’s a wonderful stadium and a really good ground so I think all the guys enjoyed playing here. It’s a test but if you can be precise with the bat and with the ball, you can succeed here."

On the bowling performance…

“Nathan McCullum bowled really well and some of our seamers, Jacob Oram. Tim Southee bowled well at the death as did Kyle Mills and Ian Butler.

“I think myself and Scott Styris didn’t bowl as well and we need to improve by tomorrow and looking forward to that Sri Lankan game as well. Hopefully we will turn it around quickly tomorrow and everyone has confidence going in to the first important game.”
