BLACKCAPS batting star Jesse Ryder has been shortlisted for the Emerging Player of the Year at the prestigious LG ICC Awards.
Ryder has had a stunning year with the bat during the voting period between August 2008 and August 2009, scoring 898 Test runs at 55.07 including a high score of 201 against India at Napier.
He is one of four candidates alongside Australian’s Ben Hifenhaus and Peter Siddle, as well as England’s Graham Onions.
To qualify for that award a player must be under the age of 26 and have played fewer than five Tests and/or 10 ODIs at the start of the voting period.
Another New Zealander shortlisted is Tony Hill who is up for Umpire of of Year – a list that also includes five time winner Simon Taufel.
The BLACKCAPS feature in the nominees for the Spirit of Cricket award along with Australia, England and Sri Lanka.
The awards will be presented at the sixth annual ICC awards, which is held in Johannesburg on October 1.
There are eight individual prizes, as well as awards for the Test and one-day international teams of the year and the Spirit of Cricket.
