Jaques ready for debut

Australian opener Phil Jaques has vowed to remain aggressive when he makes his Test debut for Australia on Boxing Day at the MCG.

Jaques has scored over 700 domestic runs for NSW this season, and he says he won't be changing his style.

"Definitely, it's got me to where I am and I'm going to be playing my game on Boxing Day," Jaques told AAP.

"I'm just going to have heaps of fun with it."

The left-hander is replacing Justin Langer (hamstring) in the Australian squad and is looking forward to combining with Matthew Hayden.

"I haven't had a lot to do with Matt yet," he said.

"He's obviously been away quite a bit with the Australian team.

"I've played against him once or twice and he's a fantastic player and he's someone I've looked up to over the years as well, so I can't wait to be at the other end with him and just see how he goes about things.

"Hopefully we can have a bit of a chat before the Test and form a bit of chemistry and enjoy it."

Jaques also holds an English passport but says he was always going to be available for Australia.

"Mate, it was more like media hype, the fact that I could qualify if I wanted to, and I was doing well over there," he said.

"So those things came up over time.

"But I'm Australian and I'm proud as punch to be playing for Australia and I just can't wait to get out there
