Jacob Oram injury update

New Zealand Cricket today provided an update on the fitness of Jacob Oram prior to the BLACKCAPS departure for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Oram was due to play in the final one-day match of the National Bank Series against Pakistan in Auckland yesterday but injured his ankle during the team warm up.

After an MRI scan, x-ray and independent medical assessment Oram has been cleared to travel with the team to India on Tuesday.

Speaking about the injury Oram said: “I developed ankle pain and although it didn’t feel serious I wasn’t able to bowl without discomfort.

“The medical staff got the necessary assessment done and I was sweating on the results but pleased when the doctor let me know that I was fit to travel with the team to the World Cup.  I have inflammation around the joint so not a significant tear or break.

“I’ve worked hard over the last six months to get fully fit so it is extremely disappointing to pick up another niggle. However I am confident it isn’t too serious and am determined to do everything I can to be fully fit for the first match.”

New Zealand Cricket medical staff will provide ongoing assessment and treatment while in India with Oram expected to be available for selection for the warm up match against Ireland on 12 February.

The next media opportunity will be at the airport on Tuesday 8 February, when the team depart from Auckland.  An advisory will be sent out once the details are finalised.
