"It is going to be hard for batsmen to start on these wickets" - TAYLOR

Ross Taylor
The BLACKCAPS middle order batsmen talks about the match against the West Indies, the pitch conditions and his innings.

On your performance in the warm up match against the West Indies

“It was pretty tough early on but once I faced 20-25 balls I got the pace of the wicket.

“The partnership with Jake was good.  He took a lot of pressure off me when he first came in.  It was good to get a competitive total of 125.  We thought we were still a little bit short but it worked out to be enough at the end of the day.”

On the batting performance against West Indies…

“You would always like for your first five or six to score the bulk of the runs. They scored a few runs against Ireland and hopefully they can take some confidence from that.

“It is going to be hard for batsmen to start on these wickets.  I’m sure throughout the tournament we’ll get the jist of it.”

On the slow wickets in the West Indies…

“Spin is going to play a big part so you have to adapt your game to face spin but in saying that the quick bowlers are probably going to bowl a lot of slower balls as well.  They are slow here in Guyana and from what we’ve heard they are going to be slow in St Lucia and Barbados as well.”

On the warm up match against the West Indies…

“I think we were 6 for 30 odd so it was tough and the way that Chanderpaul and Gayle batted pretty much took the match away from us but the boys stuck at it and the way Styris bowled got us back in the game and as I said it was a tough wicket to come out and start on straight away.

“We knew we were in the hunt and to win from that situation will give the boys a lot of confidence.”
