INTERVIEW: Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke
The Australian captain talks about the loss, Brendon McCullum's innings and bowling Shaun Tait in the super over.

On learning from tonight’s match...

"There are certainly a lot of positives that come out of tonight. Yes we are all disappointed we didn’t get the result. The last three games we have played some brilliant Twenty20 cricket and it was no different tonight, its just unfortunate we didn’t get that result tonight.

"I think looking forward to the World Cup which has been, obviously we have had one eye on that since the start of our Twenty20, the first game against Pakistan, I don’t think you get better preparation. That’s international cricket at it’s best. In any form of the game and for guys that haven’t played much international cricket that’s a great example of what we are going to come up against in the West Indies.

"Just about every team has an individual player that can produce an innings like Brendon did tonight and I think full credit needs to go to him he played a wonderful innings and we didn’t know how to stop him, we couldn’t stop him on a ground that had pretty short boundaries.

"That’s the way the game goes. It’s a great game for the spectators, the viewers and the people that took part to be a part of."

On Shaun Tait...

"He has been out best bowler in the last three Twenty20s. He executes his Yorker pretty good, and he has led our attack. Johnson bowled really well the game before and everybody have played a part.

"He’s been our best bowler and I was confident. I am confident he can play that role for us, he is the guy who wanted the ball, wanted the opportunity, it just didn’t work tonight. A few more runs might of helped as well.

"I'm certainly not going to sit here and blame any player. I thought it was a great game of cricket and we did everything that we spoke about, with the bat we were very confident that we could chase the runs. All the guys should be very proud I though we worked very hard thought out the whole match."
