Daniel Vettori
BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori talks about the teams moviation to win, playing 250 ODI's and the two new BLACKCAPS - Peter Ingram and Andy McKay.
On dealing with the motivation for this series…
“There is a series win. We need to finish that off tomorrow and we need to keep playing well. There are high expectations of us from ourselves and from everyone round to make sure that the performances are of a particular standard and we have been able to meet them in the first two games and we have to make sure that we continue that.
“We have had a plan of rotating the three seamers throughout the three One-Dayers so we will look at that again. Still looking to give Andy McKay as much game time as possible so maybe Daryl or Tim will miss out on this next one.”
On the Bangladesh team…
“They have definitely improved as a side. They have a very good captain who has done so well for them so I think they are maturing as a side and we know that when they hit their straps they are going to be a difficult team to beat. I suppose we are trying to keep our standards high so we don’t slip up against them.”
On his 250th match…
“Those things are important to me, its nice to play that many games for New Zealand and to have an opportunity to captain the side in that is something that is special to me.”

On Peter Ingram…
“I have know Peter for a while and played age-group cricket with him. I have been impressed with his ability over the last couple of years and it is always nice for a guy to put so many runs on the board and then get picked, and then to do well in his first couple of games so he is pretty sure of his game. He understands what he needs to do after playing for so long he is starting to replicate that and in only two games for New Zealand and hopefully it continues for a long time.”
On Andy McKay…
“I drove it a lot myself from facing him in the HRV Cup, he was definitely the quickest guy that I had faced and to be fair I think that makes a real difference when you step up to international level. Sometimes the slower paced can succeed at domestic level but once you make that step up its tougher to succeed. We took a chance on him because of that pace and I think he does have it, if he can balance that with some control and a bit of experience at the international game then he could be an asset for us. Left armer as well makes a big difference.”
