Daniel Vettori
BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori talks about team expectations, where they can improve and the 50 over format.
On his expectations of the team…
“Still have to expect Bangladesh to get better and play a stronger form of cricket, therefore our game against them has to improve. We obviously want to win 3 – 0 and take that momentum into the Test match series so hopefully much of the same.”
On concentrating on the BLACKCAPS game…
“There are particular aspects, if you look at the death bowling from the last game probably wasn’t as good as we would like to be and if we can improve on that, regardless of the outcome, then I think that is going to hold us in better stead looking towards Australia where its going to be a crucial part of the game.”

On BLACKAPS performance so far…
“Aspects of our game, we are doing really well. Obviously Bangladesh have allowed us to do that in some forms. Our top order bowling has been outstanding and it has been backed up by some impressive innings from Ross Taylor and Peter Ingram - Neil Broom in the first game with Jacob Oram, that have allowed us to play well.”
On the 50 over game…
“Its like all forms of the game, if they are good games, then people are excited by them. If you think back to New Zealand chasing down 330 here against Australia, I think a lot of people would pay to go and see that. If they are not quality games, whether its Test matches, Twenty20’s or One-Dayer’s, then you are going to struggle to get that buy in from the public.”

The BLACKCAPS coach reflects on the first ODI, the team performance and how the team is looking to improve.
On the top batting order for the Test match…
“We have put Guptill at five in the middle order. We have brought in Peter Ingram and we have got Neil Broom as well so pretty much we have the core of the group from the Pakistan series but we have got three newcomers.”
On Neil Broom…
“He has been very consistent this year on all forms, particularly the longer form and he is maturing I think. We want to give him a bit more of an opportunity in his One-Day career for New Zealand. So far he has batted six or seveb coming in late, trying to give him a bit more of a chance, more overs, more balls to face to see what he can do. We have got a couple of more World Cups coming up, we have got to sort out our Test line up batting-wise to improve batting balls, batting time, and being ruthless in that area. We have got to give one or two guys a run to see how they go.”
On Test places against Australia…
“The good thing about Australia arriving is three first class games prior and during that Test series so we are hoping that the players we pick from this Test will get some form and will also have some form for their domestic side before the Australia series so trying to be consistent and give guys a run and back guys that are going to do the job for us. Its going to be a tough assignment against Australia but its always nice to play against the yellows.”
