INTERVIEW: Brendon McCullum talks the Press before the third Test in Wellington

 Brendon McCullum
The BLACKCAPS wicketkeeper-batsman talks about the Basin Reserve pitch, the confidence in the team and the weather!

On the Wellington pitch…

“I haven’t looked but I’ve heard its going to be a pretty good surface, depending on what the overhead conditions do in the next few days will govern whether some moisture goes into it or whether it remains dry and plays as well as predicted but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

On the BLACKCAPS confidence going into the last Test…

“More confident than we were going into the last Test. I think it’s just on the nature of how we competed in that last game.  When you come off a 10 wicket loss in the first match your confidence is fairly dented and when you respond the way we did after being three for 20 in that first innings of that last game - to be able to come back and put ourselves in position where we were trying to force a result for the better is a pretty good sign for the team, so the boys are a lot more confident now than they were a week ago.”

On how they approach this Test knowing they need a good result…

“I guess that’s cricket in general. You’re constantly reviewed by how you perform on your last game and at the moment we’re confident but we do need to make sure we step up and play as well as we did in that last Test match. I think if we create the opportunities or stick to the plan like we did in the last Test match, we should get better results just with the nature of the surface here as well.”

On how the players are effected by cooler temperatures…

“I think the Indian team will find it a little bit cold. If we find it cold then they will be freezing! I’m sure from their point of view they’ll be hoping that the wind dies down and the sun comes out but from our point of view it would be great to go out when the conditions are like that but we’ll wait and see if that plays a part. I’m sure we’re going to find the conditions a bit more pleasurable than they are.”
