Inside knowledge favours BLACKCAPS

The BLACKCAPS are taking heart from a sense of déjà vu ahead of tomorrow’s warm up match against Ireland at Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur.

It was in November last year the team played India at the venue that will host the warm up match against India and later in the tournament an important fixture against Australia.

The familiar surrounding and conditions will give the BLACKCAPS an edge over the Irish team who are yet to play a match in India.

Captain Daniel Vettori believes another advantage is the experience that coach John Wright brings.

“He knows what it takes to succeed in these conditions and knows a lot of people who have succeeded here so we can tap into their knowledge as well,” said Vettori.  “He’s going to be a very important asset for us throughout this tournament.

The skipper is not dwelling on recent defeats, preferring to focus on the complete team performance the team put together for their last ODI.

“Hopefully we can reflect back on our last game which was a win against Pakistan and bring that confidence over to the World Cup.

“We’re the same as any team – we have come here to win and that’s the only thing you look at.  I think it’s a important for teams to focus on the next game in front of because there’s no point worrying about the finals that are a long way away,” Vettori concluded.
