India romps home

Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh have spun India to a 259-run win in the third Test against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad.

Celebrating his 100th Test, Kumble finished with 5-89 while Harbhajan took 3-79 as Sri Lanka was bundled out early on day five for 249.

Starting the day at 6-235, Sri Lanka held out hope of holding on for an unlikely draw but the match was over within 30 minutes of the resumption.

It scored only 14 runs while losing its last four wickets.

Kumble struck early, removing Farveez Maharoof (2) in the second over of the day with a ball that went straight on as Farveez played for the spin.

Harbhajan chipped in with the wickets of Jehan Mubarak (18), when he had the ball spin across him to take an edge to be caught by VVS Laxman, and Muttiah Muralitharan (3) who was bowled when attempting a slog sweep.

Fittingly, Kumble wrapped up the win with his fifth scalp, dismissing Malinga Bandara for 11 in just the eighth over of the day when he was held by Sehwag in the slips.

Harbhajan's haul gave him 10 wickets for the match.

Despite its early end the match was competitive and entertaining as the Indians moved to second on the world Test ranks as a result of their series win.
