White Ferns captain Suzie Bates realises that the White Ferns have an uphill battle in front of them trailing the England Women two nil in the Twenty20 series – but that doesn’t mean she’s not confident they can do it.
The two sides face off in the third of five Twenty20s at Eden Park on Wednesday and Bates wants to see a superior performance to the one shown at Seddon Park on Sunday.
“The first six is really important for us with bat and ball, we have to improve in both those areas. I felt that we weren’t as good in the field as we usually are and that’s important for us too,” Bates said.
“We’ve made some improvements and it’s just going to take one bit of momentum to get us going.
“We believe we can beat England, but we have to play really well, we can’t play at 50 percent. We have to be at our best.”
While the Ferns are looking to take the next step, England are just one game away from wrapping up the series.
English Captain Charlotte Edwards recognises it’s not the time to take the foot off the gas yet, but is thrilled with their start to the tour.
“I thing for us it was a complete performance (Hamilton). To put 166 on the board and then to bowl and field as well as we did, I’m delighted.” Edwards declared.
“We spoke about not wanting to get complacent and just keep the playing good cricket that we’re playing at the moment.
“We’ve come out here to win two series and hopefully we can do that in Auckland.”
With an exciting young White Fern’s squad improving with every match and the England Women’s team hitting a purple patch of form you can expect the series to go up a notch come Wednesday.
There’s a lot to play for at Eden Park.
