Hearts score double victory

State Auckland Hearts completed their second win of the weekend over State Wellington Blaze at Barton Oval.

Captain Ingrid Cronin-Knight and opener Ros Kember contributed 83 and 57 respectively to their side’s 235 for eight batting first.

Blaze’s Amanda Cooper took four for 42 to limit the visitors, but her performance could not be backed up by her team’s batting order.

Elizabeth Perry made the best impression with an unbeaten 40 in Wellington’s 180, with Paula Gruber taking four for 36.

On Saturday, Megan Wakefield struck 85 but Wellington’s chase fell five runs short.

The Hearts claimed victory by dismissing the home side for 237 with three balls remaining in a nail-biting encounter.

Shanna Coetzee ran Wakefield out to ensure victory, after the Blaze seemed well placed to win out.

Wakefield’s innings built on Andrea Stockwell’s 49 to put Wellington on 196 for five with five overs remaing, but a severe slump ensured the visiting team triumphed.

Earlier, Megan Murphy’s unbeaten 67 helped the Hearts to 242 for eight.
