Harris century in vain

Chris Harris hit the season’s first State Twenty20 century but his State Canterbury Wizards side fell short of State Auckland Aces’ total in Christchurch.

Harris’ 100 and Michael Papps’ 53 made up the bulk of Canterbury’s 183, in reply to Auckland’s 198 for four.

The Aces, who won the toss and batted first, benefited from a 98-run stand by Lou Vincent (47) and Richard Jones (77). Rob Nicol’s 47 from 25 balls also boosted the total.

In response, Harris put on 66 with Papps before completing his hundred in just 52 balls, including eight fours and six sixes.

Harris followed State Otago Volts’ Chris Gaffaney in making his 100.

However, he lost his wicket without further score with three balls to go, leaving the Wizards 15 runs adrift of victory at a cost of six wickets.
