Otago Boys High School (Z Cumming 132*, B Stephens 35, T O’Connor 3-34, Z Cumming 2-44) beat Mount Albert Grammar School (W Donald 53, R Krige 46, M Davidson 2-18),  Lincoln No. 3

After winning their toss and electing to bat first against Otago Boys HS, Mount Albert Grammar found themselves in a spot of bother on 57/5 after 12 overs - OBHS seam bowlers, led by Thomas O’Connor (3-34) doing a majority of the damage.

MAGS middle order again showed willingness to fight through Wesley Donald (53) and Ryan Krige (46), who managed to put on 88 runs for the sixth wicket. Aryun Nigudkar (39) and Thomas Iles (21) continued the positive intent through the lower order, seeing MAGS through to 240/8 after their 50 overs.

Otago Boys’ batting innings started on the wrong foot, thanks to two early wickets from Max Davison (2-18). OBHS batsman Zac Cumming showed patience early, before opening up on the MAGS attack and scoring a vital century off just 103 balls.

Ben Stephens (35), O’Connor (20) and Oliver Thode (21*) all provided Cumming valuable support, seeing him through to a match-winning 132* runs off 120 balls – and claiming victory for OBHS with just three overs remaining.

Christ’s College 159/4 (N Gibb 57*, M Lewis 54, B Breitmeyer 3-25, M Hocquard 2-25) beat Hutt International Boys’ School 158/10 (L Bailey 70, L Jelley 26, L Bailey 2-41), Bert Sutcliffe Oval

Christ’s College have backed up their record-breaking day yesterday with another strong showing against Hutt International on the Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

After HIBS won the toss and chose to bat, Christ’s immediately took the upper hand by taking wickets in the second and third overs. Ben Breitmeyer later took two wickets in the 13th over to have HIBS reeling at 41/4.

Wellington U19 representative Lachie Bailey dug in with a captains knock (70 runs off 83 balls) to give the innings some stability and see HIBS through to 158 all out. Seam bowlers Breitmeyer (3-25) and Matt Hocquard (2-25) the best of the Christ’s bowling unit.

Christ’s batting innings got off to a false start, losing one of yesterday’s centurions in Tim Seeto. The loss of Seeto didn’t seem to bother fellow opener Matt Lewis, however, who continued to blast a half-century off 30 balls.

The other of yesterday’s centurions, Nick Gibb, backed up yesterdays knock with a calculated half-century of his own (57*), seeing Christ’s home in the 25th over. Lachie Bailey’s (2-41) off-spin proving the most effective option for HIBS.

Christ’s retain the Heathcote Williams Shield, and will look to defend it against Otago Boys HS on day four.

Napier Boys’ High School 223/10 beat (Z Forster 44, C Geange 32, H James 4-28, C Geange 3-30) Tauranga Boys College 183/10 (S Clode 71, D Collett 46, R Brady 4-66), Lincoln Green

Napier Boys’ won their first toss of tournament and decided to have a bat on the Lincoln Green. The first four overs were full of action – Napier Boys scoring 39 runs but also losing both of their openers.

Tauranga took a further two wickets, looking to hold the momentum until Zach Forster (44) and Thomas Hall (27) dug in for the fifth wicket. Charlie Geange (32) again showed his wares with the bat, leading NBHS to a competitive 223 runs all out.

Riley Brady was the pick of the TBC bowlers, taking four key wickets (4-66) while seam bowler Loughlin Keaney took two (2-35).

In the second innings, NBHS bowlers started well - having TBC four down before the 10 over mark. Opening bowlers Hamish James (4-28) and Geange (3-30) showing their class with the new ball.

Wicketkeeper-bat Sam Clode (71) and captain Darcy Collett (46) were not willing to give in, however, and managed to amass almost 100 runs for the 7th wicket. Clode continued to give TBC a fighter’s chance as wickets fell around him.

It was to be in vain however, as Clode was removed by Geange in the 44th over – Napier Boys’ winning by 40 runs.
