From Volts to Lightening for T20 competition

BLACKCAP Twenty20 specialist Nathan McCullum has just arrived in the UK for a five week placement with the Lancashire Lightening for the Friends Provident Twenty20 competition.

He has been in discussions with the side for four weeks and he is thrilled to finally be on the ground in England. “The opportunity to play at Lancashire is going to be exciting. They have a good strong team with a number of good players and also playing at the Old Trafford ground will be a great experience,” he said.

He will play along side Pakistani national Shoaib Malik and will play against the likes of fellow BLACKCAPS Ross Taylor, James Franklin and his brother Brendon during the five week stint. “The competition will be exciting and I’m sure entertaining with the number of strong teams and players around, so it will be a great spectacle for the game in the UK,” McCullum said.

The competition is more intense than the Twenty20 competition in New Zealand; however McCullum isn’t daunted by the challenges ahead. “There are obviously a lot more teams and also two leagues. It will be a lot longer with 16 games before any finals, so that will be something new,” he said. “My goals are to continue trying to improve my game and enjoy the opportunity of playing county cricket which is something that not everyone gets the chance to do.

“It will be a challenge but also very exciting at the same time.”
