New Zealand’s six Major Associations have announced the list of players offered first-round domestic contracts for the coming season.
While a new Master Agreement has yet to be finalised, an agreement has been reached to allow the contracting process to take place in a timely fashion.
The contracting process for domestic players involves two rounds, with 16 players contracted to each team overall - up one from previous seasons. The Major Associations can offer between 10 and 15 contracts at their discretion in the first round, before offering the remaining contracts in the second round on 30 June.
The two-stage contracting process ensures increased competition for the final contracts offered at Major Association level, and helps ensure the best players are contracted throughout the country.
