The exhilarating Twenty20 match that ended with BLACKCAPS clinching a dramatic win in a Super over against our Trans-Tasman rivals is being touted as the best ever by some fans.
AMI Stadium in Christchurch was set alight by some breathtaking hitting by BLACKCAPS opener Brendon McCullum and then later by Australia’s Cameron White while Tim Southee produced some of the best death bowling to seal the victory for the home side.
But the match was best described by Facebook fan David, “Sublime Baz!, Those 2 sixes off Tait! Never seen anything like it!! Southee, ice cool under pressure and a game that had everything (including some genius from Cameron White). Let’s hope we can show that belief and fight in the remainder of the series! Great stuff lads!”
The massive crowd rose to their feet and got behind their team as Southee delivered the crucial final ball that produced two runs and sent the match to a super over.
"It was the most amazing game," captain Daniel Vettori said. " That’s the best crowd I have played in front of in New Zealand and possibly one of the best crowds I have ever played in front of. That last ball that Tim Southee bowled in the main part of the game - I couldn’t hear anything.”
Post match the BLACKCAPS official Facebook page was buzzing with messages of support, with some rating the match as the best ever.
“That game was amazing. Would highly recommend people get down to the one dayers. Great crowd in there, best twenty20 ever,” wrote Mark Duncan.
Fans who were at the match logged on to share their thoughts with Paul commenting, “Just got back from AMI Stadium and blown away by how amazing this game really was.”
The official FANS club and junior supporters club (KIWICAPS) has been busy with Kiwis wanting to wish them luck, “AWESOME GAME GUYS!!!!! T-20 in ChCh against our famous rivals....WE LOVED IT! On the edge of our seats all the way...YOU POPPED THAT AUSSIE BUBBLE...All the best for the rest of the tour Ali & Char.
The format changes to One-Day Cricket with the first of five Chappell/Hadlee encounters to be played at McLean Park in Napier on Wednesday 3 March.
