After missing the New Zealand summer and the BLACKCAPS trip to the West Indies because of a knee injury, Wellington all-rounder Grant Elliott is in fighting form and is out show he wants a spot in the team to tour Sri Lanka.
For the next two weeks Elliott will be based in Brisbane with the training camp ensuring his fitness, batting and bowling is up to scratch before the BLACKCAPS touring team is announced over the next few weeks.
Over the last few months he’s been working hard on ensuring he is back to top condition. “Rehabilitation has been quite frustrating, but I have been quite diligent with it and it involves a lot of repetition to get the mechanics correct,” he said. “It is going as well as I thought it would at this stage.”
He’s already missed the tours against Australia, Pakistan and to the West Indies for the ICC World Twenty20 but he is driven to make it to the sub-continent. “That’s what I was aiming for – to be fit and ready for Sri Lanka, if selected,” he said.
Elliott, along with a handful of other players including Kane Williamson, BJ Watling and Daniel Flynn are spending the next two weeks training and acclimatising to warmer conditions.
