NZ Domestic Pitch of the Year winner - Pukekura Park

Eden Park and Pukekura Park win awards

Eden Park and Pukekura Park will be acknowledged at the New Zealand National Turf Conference Awards on Tuesday 28th June, having been named as the international and domestic cricket pitches of the year.

Having won the domestic pitch award last year, Eden Park have added the international prize to their cabinet.

The Auckland venue hosted two ANZ One Day Internationals and two ANZ Twenty20 Internationals during the 2015-16 home summer, with the pitch receiving positive feedback from the ICC and teams involved.

Domestic pitch winner, New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park, was a venue for the WHITE FERNS, Georgie Pie Super Smash and Ford Trophy finals. Players and officials consistently rated it as one of the best pitches around the country.

NZC General Manager Grounds and Facilities Ian McKendry congratulated the people behind the awards.

“The Eden Park and Pukekura Park turf management teams should be really proud of this achievement,” said McKendry.

“As a groundsman, a lot of hard work and long hours go in which not many people see. It’s great that events like the Turf Conference acknowledge all the effort which is put in."

The awards, to be held at Sky City, are also attended by NZ Golf Greenkeepers Association, Bowls Greenkeepers Association, NZ Recreation Association and and the NZ Sports Turf Association.
