Canterbury Magicians all-rounder Kate Ebrahim (nee Broadmore) wasn’t sure the call she’d been hoping for would ever come again.
Two and a half years on from her last outing for the WHITE FERNS, Ebrahim is preparing for a return to international cricket.
After stints playing hockey and a season in rugby for Canterbury, the 26-year-old has been recalled for the WHITE FERNS three-match ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) ODI series against the West Indies.
“It does feel like it’s been a while,” Ebrahim said on the eve of tomorrow’s opening game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.
“When I got the call from Haidee [Tiffen] to say I was back in the ODI team it was like my dreams were coming true again.
“I’ve got all the new kit and met all the girls now so it’s nice to be back and I’m raring to go.”
Ebrahim helped Canterbury win their first national provincial championship in rugby last year, sharing the halfback duties with Black Ferns veteran Kendra Cocksedge.
She says the experience was invaluable as she swaps the boots for the bat.
“I don’t know whether it helped [physically], the body gets a bit bashed around in the old footy! But the ladies were outstanding, just to play a different code and see how they operated offered some great learnings.”
Ebrahim’s focus is now firmly on helping the WHITE FERNS succeed.
She hopes to transfer her form with the bat domestically into the international arena, after averaging 61 runs this season for the Canterbury Magicians in the 50 over

The first two games of the IWC series will be live-streamed at nzc.nz, while the third ODI on March 11 will be broadcast live on Sky Sport.
The ODI series will be followed by five T20s in the North Island.
