Dream run for McKay and Ingram

BLACKCAPS debutant Andy McKay describes his assent into the Test team as a “dream run” and he is looking forward to the challenges the longest form of the game brings.

He was pushed into the spotlight two weeks ago, when the little known Wellington Firebirds fast bowlers was picked for the BLACKCAPS ODI side. He’s been sharp on attack with the ball during last ODI games against Bangladesh averaging just 14.25 with an economy rate of 3.16 per over.

McKay is relishing the chance to take the next step into Test matches and is looking forward to next week’s game against Bangladesh. “I’ve had a dream run and selection just tops off a fantastic week,” he said during the BLACKCAPS fan signing session in Christchurch yesterday.

Test cricket is said to be like a game of chess, very tactical, however McKay is going to continue doing what he does best and that’s bowling fast with precision and accuracy. “I’m going to keep running hard. It’s worked well so far!”

Along with McKay, Neil Broom and Peter Ingram have also been selected for the Test squad for next weeks one off match against Bangladesh. Ingram has proved his worth with the bat during the Plunket Shield and current ODI series and hopes he can step up his performance for the longer format. “It’s a life long dream to be picked for the Test team,” he said. “I was hopeful about the selection but you never know with these things.”

He’s already thinking about how he will change his game strategy for the Test match in Hamilton next week. “I’m going to move my feet more when I’m at the crease,” he said.
