DIARY ENTRY 6: Sara McGlashan

White Ferns batting star Sara McGlashan's latest diary entry from the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.

Well I’m pleased to be writing this entry from my hotel room in Barbados.

The last 18 hours have been full-on. I will sum up the game against the Windies in three words - smashed em bro! But in all seriousness it was a great game. We saw the end of the men’s semi between Australia and Pakistan as we waited to get onto the field for warm up.  Aussie had a stunning win but it gave us a chance to see how good the track was playing.

We lost the toss but we got to bat which is what we wanted. It was a good start and were only two down at the 10 over mark with a good launching pad from which to kick on. I was happy to finally contribute a decent score but boy did I feel like an elderly woman running between the wickets towards the end. With all the rain we’d had it was incredibly humid.

So we posted 180 which was great but we knew this just meant that the West Indies would come out firing. Nic Browne had a brilliant four over spell, hitting the deck hard and with some heat.

Once they lost a couple of wickets the run-rate climbed and we managed to restrict them to 124. What a great feeling it was having a convincing win!

It was cool to play in front of a decent crowd of which drums and music was played non-stop during the game.

However, there was no time to enjoy the moment as we were meant to be at the airport in 50 minutes.

Luckily it was a chartered flight so after rushing back to the accommodation, having a five minute shower then getting back on the bus it didn’t matter we arrived 10 minutes before the flight was due to leave. We touched down in Barbados at 10:30pm and by 11:30pm it was bedtime minus all our gear…

We were meant to have a pool session this morning but our gear still hasn’t arrived yet and its 10am.

Having breakfast in last nights travel uniform isn’t ideal and no doubt the men’s teams think we are a bit odd wearing team kit 24/7… or at least smelly.

I could have slept anywhere last night but to wake up this morning and see the views was amazing. Harbour view one side and ocean the other. I’m lying here now with the balcony door open listening to the waves. Very relaxing!

Anyway, training this afternoon so hopefully our gear turns up!

It’s exciting to get to the final but the job's not done yet.

Thanks to everyone who watched us play the Windies. We look forward to your support on Monday morning.

Cheers
Macca
