Sara McGlashan
White Ferns batting star Sara McGlashan's latest diary entry from the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
So game day is finally here but firstly I’ll fill you in on the last few days.
We arrived in St Lucia a couple of days ago and it’s been non stop since then.
We got a police escort from the airport to the hotel and I'm not sure how famous they thought we were but this trip was madness. I wish I had grabbed a paper bag off the plane as it was like we were starring on the amazing race TV show.

There were two police bikes that spent the whole time racing ahead to stop traffic at roundabouts and would then ride ahead of us to make a third lane so we could go straight up the middle of the road. This involved one police motorbike riding towards the oncoming traffic, waving them off the road and into the ditch. In record time we had arrived at our accommodation.
Now this wasn’t quite like the Marriott in St Kitts. It is situated right on the beach which is nice but it’s also on 60 acres of land. It’s like staying in a jungle with numerous animals and insects making it slightly uncomfortable - especially when walking around at night.
Most of the girls can count out being leg models as the mosquitoes have taken a liking to most of the team.
Trainer, Jase, must struggle to sleep at night worrying about us as the hotel provides free food and drink here. There are about four different restaurants and you don’t pay a dollar as it’s built into the costs! I have a funny feeling this is why we have been kept so busy since we got here.
The tan is slowly fading as it’s rained a lot since we got here. It will absolutely pour down for five minutes and then suddenly stop so a few people have been caught out walking around the complex.
We’ve had two trainings and the team is looking really good. Having a chance to play West Indies in the warm up round was good as we now know a lot more about the players. We’ve watched a bit of ‘pooch’ footage at meetings and have in place simple plans to certain bowlers and batters.
The girls are really excited about this afternoon. We don’t play till four though so we had a pool session this morning and then most will be chilling by the pool or making the most of the free wireless.
I’d better be off to sort my bags and have lunch. Will resist the temptation to pig out and will order yet another banana daiquiri “hold the alcohol”.
Hopefully you’ll tune in to watch us live on Sky Sport or follow online at www.blackcaps.co.nz.
The next entry had better be me very excited…. and in Barbados!
Cheers
