Sian Ruck - Diary 4
Members of the White Ferns will give provide diary entries during the Rose Bowl in Australia and 2011 Quad series in England.
Day 7 complete, and we finally have our first win – it was against India. Batting first we have a shaky start losing three wickets early, but when Liz Perry goes out to join the skip they bat positively. After a comprehensive partnership between Liz and Katey Martin the team is set up with a defendable score of 125.
The bowling innings begins well with India losing two wickets early. Overall the White Ferns bowling unit bowled tightly, taking regular wickets and keeping the run rate in check. As the second innings comes to a close it is the loss of regular wickets that seems to be the difference, as it prevents India from getting any real momentum. So with a markedly improved fielding performance, we win the game by over 20runs.
After a quick stretch, swim, and a feed we board the bus arriving 45minutes later in Taunton, all set to do the same thing again tomorrow against Australia. That is: Eat; bat; bowl; ‘WIN’; stretch; swim; EAT; bus; South Hampton.
