Debutant makes Hay for Stags

Greg Hay was denied a maiden century on debut for State Central Stags, but the youngster’s knock of 98 helped the champions claim first-innings points against State Wellington Firebirds at the Basin Reserve.

Hay was cut short by only two runs as he ran out of partners, but his 102-run stand with wicketkeeper (58) moved the Stags from a precarious 99 for five.

Central stood on 42 for one overnight, but lost four quick wickets in the morning session.
