Christchurch Boys' retain the First XI Cup!

Christchurch Boys’ High School have emerged victorious once again, securing the First XI Cup title with a dramatic 15-run (DLS method) win over Napier Boys’ High School in a rain-affected match today.

CBHS went unbeaten through six matches to earn a record 13th title for the school.

The match was a credit to both teams who battled hard through bursts of rain throughout the day.

Bowling first, Napier Boys’ came out swinging, grabbing four quick wickets thanks to opening bowlers Joshua Young (2-15) and Daniel Geange (2-12).

Cam Jones (60 off 59) would be the saviour for CBHS, digging in his heels alongside Carter Woodgate (33 off 63) to see their side to a competitive total.

NBHS’s spin attack again proved to be effective, Saul Barker (3-25) and Sacha Pickering (2-34) each taking big wickets through the middle overs to keep the target within reach.

In the second innings, the bowlers were again running hot with the new ball – Hanroux Wessels (1-29) and Callum Sansom (1-18) both picking up big wickets in the power play.

NBHS opener Zach Forster (42 off 61) looked in fine touch for NBHS, partnering with the resolute Oliver Beale (35 off 83) before an unfortunate runout saw him dismissed.

After a quick flurry of wickets, Monty Field (25 off 37) joined Beale at the crease, the pair breathing some life back into NBHS’s run chase.

Unfortunately for NBHS, an ill-timed bout of rain would call end to the match, seeing them fall 15 runs behind on DLS.

St Paul's Collegiate produced a well-rounded performance to beat Hutt International by 6 wickets.

Captain Will Hadley (3-12) and seamer Finn Bell (3-27) were the best with the ball for SPC, while wicketkeeper bat Quintus Daniell (59* off 43) led the way with the bat.

A composed knock from Connor Jollivet (93* off 90) helped see Westlake to a 50-run win (DLS method) on the Lincoln Green.

After losing a couple of early wickets, Jollivet set about controlling the innings, getting his side well ahead of the game before the rain came.

Left arm spinner Oliver Davies (4-34) again picked up big wickets for his side, while wicketkeeper bat Matt Parker (51 off 78) was the best of the Otago batting unit.

New Zealand Cricket would like to thank all players, parents and coaches for a great week of cricket.

NZC also extend a big thank you to all tournament officials, ground staff and Lincoln University for providing a first-class experience for the players.
