Yesterday the children at Kidz First at Middlemore Hospital received a visit from BLACKCAPS pace-men Kyle Mills and Daryl Tuffey.
The Sri Lanka bound BLACKCAPS spent over an hour at the hospital spending time with children and their parents.
Hospital spokeswoman Michelle Kidd said it was wonderful having Tuffey and Mills spend the afternoon with the patients. “The children waited in anticipation all morning and were so excited,” she said. “It was quite overwhelming to have two famous sports people spending quality time with them. It was a pleasure to have them here at Kidz First.”
The players visited bed-ridden patients and spent some time in the playroom participating in Wii games, playing pool and strategising over board games. Kyle Mills said it was wonderful to see the children and parents smiling. “It was really enjoyable. The parents there got a kick out of it as well because their kids were happy,” he said. “Things like our visit make a difference. It’s a worth while experience going in there.
“It’s defiantly a surreal feeling to see how courageous all these kids are. They are obviously unwell but they still manage to be happy and have smiles on their faces. It’s nice to be there and brighten up their day.”
The players also handed out BLACKCAPS merchandise to those at the hospital so they had something to remember them by.
