State Central Hinds claimed their first State League title with a five-wicket victory over title holder State Canterbury Magicians in Christchurch.
White Fern Sarah McGlashan led her side to a famous victory with an unbeaten 55.
The Hinds made their target of 151 in the 48th over, for the loss of only five wickets, despite the best efforts of Amy Satterthwaite, who took three wickets for 28 runs.
Canterbury, who topped the table after the 10 round-robin matches, claimed home advantage and began the game at QEII Park’s Village Green as favourites.
After a rain-delayed start, the Magicians batted first but a fine effort by the Hinds’ bowling attack contained the usually prolific Canterbury top order.
But Canterbury were reduced to 150 for nine from their 50 overs, with captain Haidee Tiffen and Beth McNeil leading the scoring with 25 apiece – the latter unbeaten – en route to 150 for nine.
Zara McWilliams led the bowling figures for CD with three for 37.
