Browne soaking it up in the Windies

The White Ferns are optimistic about their changes in their opening ICC World Twenty20 match against India tomorrow and are enjoying their time in the Caribbean.

Although the White Ferns have come off a loss against the West Indies in their final warm up game, All-rounder Nicola Browne is looking forward to the competition ahead. “The loss was just a reminder how one over can change the match, so every ball is very important,” she said. “There is excitement that the competition has started, but to be honest there is a calm confidence amongst the team.”

It’s a long way from Seddon Park to St Kitts, but Browne said she is adjusting well to the Caribbean climate. “The outfields are petty hard and pitches have been a mixed bag, but the main pitch we play on tomorrow seems to have a bit more bounce in it,” she said. “The scenery from the grounds have been stunning however, with palm trees, ocean and mountain views.”

During the build up to their first game of the competition, the White Ferns have been able to have some down time. They have met some interesting characters and had some wonderful experiences. “We went on an outstanding catamaran trip last night and sail out to a bay where a few of us swam with the fire urchins. Then we had dinner as the sun set and sailed back in the moonlight. When in Rome!” Browne laughed. “We also met a guy called ‘Shizzle’ who retrieved a ball for us in the game against the West Indies the other day, who invited us back to his Red Lobster Restaurant.”

The White Ferns play India in St Kitts at 6am Friday (NZ time).
