Doug Bracewell doesn’t hide how happy he is with his start to International cricket, but is determined to bring his rich vein of form into the shorter forms of the game as well.
The 21 year-old backed up his incredible performance in the Hobart Test victory over Australia with another good showing against Zimbabwe to help New Zealand beat their visitors by a record one innings and 301 runs.
“Full credit to our guys, the seamers bowled exceptionally well,” said Bracewell.
“It’s a dream start. Three from four (Test wins), I couldn’t ask for more. I may as well hang the boots up now.”
But the talented youngster is under no false illusions that the ‘dream’ will last forever and is already preparing for a much tighter battle in the upcoming One Day and Twenty20 matches with Zimbabwe.
“They’re probably more of a shorter form team, so we won’t be taking them lightly in the ODIs and Twenty20s and will be looking to back up this performance."
“They’ve got a few guys in the top order who can strike it pretty clean and if they get away they can be pretty hard to stop.”
When it comes to Bracewell’s own form he admits he is looking forward to the limited overs matches and is taking confidence from his performances in the domestic competition.
“I like to see myself playing all forms. I enjoy the Twenty20s and ODIs and I’ve been going alright in the Twenty20s for Central so hopefully I can bring that form to the international stage.”
With the first ODI on Friday he won’t be the only one going in full of confidence. After their recent success it’s a case of trying to make sure complacency doesn’t creep into the BLACKCAPS camp.
Thankfully for Bracewell, he likes to keep it simple and makes it clear he’s not looking too far into the future.
“Our next target is these One Day games.”
It’s exactly the attitude that the BLACKCAPS require, but one would have to think the South African series is somewhere at the back of his mind.
