Anna Smith and Megan Wakefield posted half-centuries as State Wellington Blaze confirmed their place in the State League final with a 54-run win over reigning champions Central Hinds.
Smith (82) and Wakefield (68) shared a third-wicket stand of 119 to help Wellington to 228 for six at Upper Hutt.
Economic bowling by the Blaze attack, led by Lucy Doolan (3/23) and Sophie Devine (2/29) ensured the Hinds reply never sustained the required run rate.
Sara McGlashan, the competition’s top run-scorer, made 50 and Aimee Mason 35, but the Hinds fell short, posting 179 for nine.
Zara Mc Williams carried her bat for an unbeaten 33 not out for the holders, who need to defeat Wellington in the final game of the round robin for the chance to defend their title.
