Selector Mark Greatbatch said the teams have been selected with an eye to the T20 World Cup in the West Indies in May, and players for next year’s ODI World Cup in Asia.
“We have picked two sides for Bangladesh, but our mid to long-term focus is on the two World Cup campaigns. This year’s T20 and next year’s ODI World Cup,” he said. “A number of players who have missed out on these teams are definitely still in the mix for those tournaments and for the the up-coming series against Australia.”
There are two new caps, Andrew McKay in the ODI format and Peter Ingram in both the T20 and ODI teams.
“Peter has been scoring a lot of runs across all forms of the game. We wanted to give him an opportunity against Bangladesh. It is exciting for him and good reward for some very good performances over a couple of seasons,” said Greatbatch.
“Similarly, Andrew has been impressing around the traps for a while, with Auckland and latterly with Wellington. He has some good pace about him and we wanted to give him a chance at the next level up.”
Shane Bond, Grant Elliot, Kyle Mills and Jesse Ryder were not considered because of injury.
Selectors will announce the BLACKCAPS squad for the Feb 15-19 Bangladesh Test Match in early February.
