The Ross Taylor inspired victory not only handed India their fourth heaviest ODI defeat but lifted them above the cricketing powerhouse to second spot in the official ICC ODI rankings.
The BLACKCAPS now sit one point ahead of India on 117 points but are 15 points adrift of Australia who top the list with 132 points. South Africa (115) occupy fourth spot with England (113) rounding out the top five.
It is the BLACKCAPS highest rankings since January 2005 with Taylor saying the success comes down to, “hard work and commitment of the team to a common goal”
Taylor said that rankings are not something the team set goals around but thinks the system as a good gauge of their current form.
“Rankings are not a focus but is something we are aware of and understand that if we want to win the World Cup we need to consistently be ranked in the top three nations in the world.
“The rankings show that we are not far away from our goal but we know that we have to perform consistently to stay there,” Taylor added.
