Kyle Mills presented his number 37 playing jersey to the family of Runako Morton, on behalf the BLACKCAPS, to honour the former West Indian cricketer who passed away earlier this year.
Morton, who tragically died in a car accident in March this year, was from the neighbouring island of Nevis and today’s match was dedicated to the memory of the former middle-order batsman.
The number 37 was worn by Morton during his playing career and the BLACKCAPS wanted to pay tribute on a day members of the West Indian team declared “Runako Morton Day”.
Both teams, officials and the fans took part in a minutes silence before play and the West Indies Cricket Board made a donation to the Runako Morton’s family.
Morton played 15 Tests, 56 One-Day Internationals and seven T20 Internationals for West Indies between 2002 and 2010. A hard-worker and fierce competitor, he started his career at the regional level for Nevis and graduated to play for Leeward Islands.
