BLACKCAPS add Williamson to Test squad

The New Zealand selectors today named a 13-man squad for the second National Bank Series Test against Australia starting on Saturday 27 March.

Daniel Vettori (captain) – Northern Knights
Brent Arnel – Northern Knights
Martin Guptill – Auckland Aces
Peter Ingram – Central Stags
Brendon McCullum – Otago Volts
Tim McIntosh – Auckland Aces
Chris Martin – Canterbury Wizards
Jeetan Patel – Wellington Firebirds
Mathew Sinclair – Central Stags
Tim Southee – Northern Knights
Ross Taylor – Central Stags
B.J. Watling – Northern Knights
Kane Williamson – Northern Knights

There is one change to the New Zealand Test team that took on Australia in the first test in Wellington. Northern Districts’ Kane Williamson has been included in the Test thirteen.  Mathew Sinclair also returns to the thirteen-man squad.  Daryl Tuffey is unavailable for selection after sustaining an injury during the last Test.

Selector, Mark Greatbatch, said that Kane Williamson has been a stand-out this season at domestic level and deserves an opportunity to be involved at a higher level.

“Kane is an exciting young player and has scored a lot of runs in our domestic competition.  This is a good chance for him to be involved in the BLACKCAPS environment.  Along with Mathew Sinclair, he gives us various options and balances in the side.”
