The BLACKCAPS have slumped to 94 for four after winning the toss and batting first in the first Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill made a promising start with an opening stand of 44 before Guptill was caught behind for 13.
McCullum, who hit seven boundaries, was next to go on 34 while Kane Williamson made 19. Captain Ross Taylor played on just before lunch when on 13 leaving Jesse Ryder unbeaten on five with new batsman Dean Brownlie who is yet to get off the mark.
Peter Siddle, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon have one wicket apiece.
