Big steps for the women's game

"I am pumped for the competition - especially after the way we played against the Surrey Stars in warm-up. "

How will it compare to big bash?

"I think it is hard to compare the two competitions though - the formation of the teams are quite different. The Women's big bash teams are based off the men's teams which have been established for years and already have a big fan base, whereas the KSL is a bit different, it's something new which I hope is going to bring in new fans to the game.  It is exciting to be a part of it when you think this is the best of the English players and the best of the internationals and the best of the county players.  That is what is going to make this competition top quality - each game is going to be an absolutely ripper.  It is great to be part of it. "

How easy it to learn your role in a new team in just the space of a week?

"The coach has such a massive part to play in setting up the roles for each player and defining those roles. You have a melting pot of players all coming in from all over the place with all different styles - it's got to be hard to bring that all together into one team. Sallianne Briggs (The Lightening coach) has been fantastic. The coaches have brought us together and they have been really clear about the style of play they want to us use going forward and using what we have. It's really important when you have a group of players - especially those of us coming in from overseas, I don't really know half these girls - I am going off the coaches knowledge and their knowledge of each other.  It is tough but when you have clearly defined roles it make it easier. At the end of the day we all play cricket it's just about knowing what we need to do within the team.  To be perfectly honest it was quite nerve racking coming into a new group, you don't know what they've heard about you and I've had a bit of the old "sheep" banter but these girls are fantastic and I think it is going to become more and more common round the world with players going to different leagues. I have already loved my time here and the friendships I have already made is incredible. "

"I really like sharing my knowledge and my experience because it means the game is going to get better and the women's game is going to develop and that's what I really want. "

Does it feel a key time for women's cricket?

"I am humbled to be a part of this - obviously the advent of the Women's Big Bash league was a massive step forward but with the ECB getting in on the back of that is fantastic. And watching from NZ the support that the English girls get, the crowds etc - it's a real dream to be playing in it. Five or Ten years ago I could never have imagined playing in anything like this.  It is something really big for women's cricket like the Big Bash League."
