Big Ben to represent the KIWICAPS

Today 11 year old Hamiltonian Ben Stephens will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a KIWICAPS flag bearer and will be doing so with a broken arm.

Stephens won the opportunity for his cricket team to be the flag bearers at today’s third ODI between the BLACKCAPS and Australia at Seddon Park. They will hold the flags as the two teams run out onto the park at the start of each innings, in front of a sold out crowd.

Stephens was the lucky one out of hundreds of entries through the www.kiwicaps.co.nz website. In his entry to become a KIWICAPS flag bearer he said “I want to support my team and my country so they can win. I also want to be on TV. Go the BLACKCAPS!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Big Ben” as he is known to his friends and family, broke his arm last week after doing a daring jump on his bike. His mother Megan said winning the prize has brightened up his week. “He flipped over on his bike while doing a jump and broke his arm,” she said. “It’s had to be operated on twice and has now put him out for the rest of the cricket season. But He’s just ecstatic about being a flag bearer at the cricket.”

Stephens and his St Peter Chanel Catholic School cricket mates will be on the ground at Seddon Park at 2pm to welcome on the international sides.
