The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed it hopes to persuade key all-rounder Shahid Afridi to reconsider his decision to make himself unavailable for all Tests prior to the World Cup in the West Indies next year.
Afridi said he has walked away from the Test arena because of the packed international calendar.
He is set to sit out four Tests against England this summer as well as series with India and South Africa.
"We feel it was emotional as he's been playing regularly for a year so we hope he realises his mistake," the PCB told BBC Sport.
Afridi is contracted to play both Test and one-day cricket and PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan says it is unacceptable for a player to rule out playing in one form of the game.
"We can't have players picking and choosing when and what they want to play," he said.
"But if he wants to skip Test matches then we have to see what sort of contract he should be given."
Afridi made his Test debut in 1998 and has played 24 matches for Pakistan, compared to 224 one-day games.
The World Cup will be held in the West Indies from March to April 2007.
